Welcome to our new EMES Assistant Treasurer

At our Annual Meeting 2023, we named a new Assistant Treasurer and she has now begun her work. We welcome her and invited her to write a short introduction, similar to remarks she delivered at Annual Meeting.

My name is Magdalena Gadomska. I am Polish and, unlike most Quakers, I have lived in Gdansk since birth. As I write these words, a 3-month-old Labrador retriever puppy is sleeping next to me. His name is Ollie, he has been living with me for a week and means everything to me. I run a small accounting office.

I come from a Catholic family. I was baptised, had my first communion and a Catholic wedding. Unfortunately, due to some circumstances, I got divorced and then I realized that I was excluded from my community. I felt lost, but was not searching for other religious society. So it seems, when there is a void there is a solution, because then I met Quakers. A friend of mine is a Quaker and invited me to my first Central European Gathering in 2015 which I have attended regularly ever since. In 2015 I participated in the online course Quaker in Europe. In 2017-2021 I was a co-clerk of All Poland Gathering. In 2019, I applied for EMES international membership and was accepted. In 2022, I was entrusted with the role of member of the CEG Nomination Committee, a treasurer of the All Poland Gathering, and in May 2023, assistant treasurer of EMES.

I am an isolated Friend. There is no worship group in Gdansk, so my home group is All Poland Gathering and Central European Gathering, since May 2023 also known as Central European Yearly Meeting. After a long journey we have finally decided to become a Yearly Meeting. It was a great day for me, especially because the decision was made during the annual meeting in GdaƄsk which I was hosting.

In Friendship
Magdalena Gadomska
