Geneva Monthly Meeting will celebrate its centenary in 2020

The establishment of the Meeting was closely linked to that of the League of Nations, and possibly with the simultaneous establishment of the International Labour Organisation, in Geneva. A Quaker presence in international Geneva was supported and encouraged by British and US Friends. Thus the creation of Geneva Meeting is not just a matter of local history but a chapter in the international history of Quakerism and its engagement in building a peaceable world order.

Geneva Monthly Meeting has a collection of archives which would reward further exploration. The League of Nations archives, housed in the UN library in Geneva, are a splendid resource supported by keen and helpful staff. The archives of Friends House in London surely contain valuable information on the subject, as must similar resources in the United States. Further discoveries may also be waiting in the archives of individuals.
The hope is to produce a publication as part of the centenary celebrations.

Geneva Monthly Meeting is looking for a voluntary research assistant in this connection, or several volunteers working in different locations. The work would be supervised by a committee including Edward Dommen, erstwhile Visiting Professor of Quaker Studies at the University of Sunderland.
