Epistle of 2011 Central European Gathering of Friends

Between 2-5 June, 2011 almost 40 Friends of all ages met at the wonderful European Training Centre in Litomysl, Czech Republic, for the 14th Central European Gathering of Friends (participants came from Austria, Croatia, Czech Republic, Hungary and Poland with very welcomed visitig Friends from Germany, the UK and Switzerland).

We were blessed by the joyful presence of 9 children!

The theme was “Love in Action – Letting our Lives speak”. We felt wonderfully led by Lizz Roe of Woodbrooke in exploring Quaker ways in our personal lives as well as how we express this in our communities. We discovered that “Love in Action – Letting our Lives speak” goes well beyond verbal communication and more importantly is about our being and our living/doing.

We heard from a number of Friends involved in peace-making & social development efforts and we became aware that our lives speak through many small actions with lots of love that we all engage in.

We have been reaffirmed in the importance of this regional gathering bringing together Friends from different backgrounds, cultures and meetings and were excited to have Friends with us from the newly formed Quaker worship group in Warsaw, Poland.

The gathering was enriched by plenty of music-making, dancing, singing and playful ways of learning.

We experienced a gathered meeting for worship on Sunday where we felt the “presence in our midst” and parted gratefully already looking forward to our next meeting in 2012.
