Peace and Service Consultation 2011
11 – 13 Nov 2011
A meeting of Quaker organisations active in peace, service and advocacy all over Europe. Friends come together to learn of each other’s experience, to share concern, and to share worship and witness.
Proposed Theme
The sword comes into the world because of justice delayed and justice denied (from the Haggadah, the Jewish text that contains the order of the Passover Seder)- how do we respond to outbreaks of violence?
In reflecting upon this theme we may want to remember recent events – the “Arab Spring”, the appalling events in Oslo and Utøya and the recent urban unrest in the UK – and look at the need for economic and environmental justice as well as political justice, and learn more about how these topics were explored at the recent International Ecumenical Peace Convocation in Kingston, Jamaica, held by the World Council of Churches, look at how we engage with partners and network to amplify the impact of our advocacy efforts, and what we can offer to partners to be change agents.
