Europe & Middle East Young Friends Annual Meeting 2017

Where and when?
This year AM will be held from 23.11. – 26.11.2017 at Quaker House in Brussels (Belgium). The
programme will start on Thursday afternoon/evening, first shared activity being dinner, and will end
on Sunday around 14.00 after Meeting for Worship with local Friends and lunch. You can also
arrive later, if it is not possible for you to be there on Thursday.
What will happen?
We will discern business for EMEYF/hold meeting for worship for business, cook together and
enjoy the impressive Brussels for a bit. We will rekindle old f/Friendships and hopefully make new
ones and score the EMEYF Living Archives!
This year, we will start one day earlier than usal, which will give us time on Thursday and Friday to
get into more than 30 years of experiences and stories of Young Friends.
Together we are going to build on the materials that are already part of it – like minutes, reports,
personal letters from the 30 years of EMEYF, but there will also be an opportunity to add to the
archive by responding to the material, conduct interviews and by making stories available through
Everyone is welcome, regardless of whether you have been involved with EMEYF in the past or
not, and regardless of your skills and background. The more diverse our group of Living Archivists,
the more the material speaks. The aim is to connect with former EMEYFers, but also to challengeour ourselves and get to know each other and ourselves better: Where do we stand today, what does
it mean to be a (Young) Friend in this changing world?
The event will happen at Quaker Council for European Affairs (QCEA), Square Ambiorix 50, B-
1000 Bruxelles in the beautiful, old Quaker house situated prominently in the prominent Brussels.

The venue has some mattresses, but if possible you should bring a sleeping bag and mats. If not,
please tell us in the registration and we will find a solution.
The event is self-catered, and the food will be vegetarian, if you have additional dietary
requirements, please let us know in your registration.
We try to keep overall costs for the weekend to a minimum. We will split the overall cost of food
between us all, probably around €15 per person for the weekend, to be paid at the weekend.
You will have to arrange and pay for your own travel. We recommend a donation to EMEYF for
compensation of the ecological cost of your travel (€1/5/8, for travelling by train/car/plane).
If you struggle with the costs, no not hesitate to contact Silja and ask for support before 09.11.17,
financial reasons should not prevent you from coming.
